Water Safety Events 2018
As a pool cleaning and care service, we are always on the lookout for products, services, and events which may help our customers, and one topic of particular concern is water safety. Over 3500 children per year die in the U.S. each year from drowning. Some of these children drown as a result of lack of supervision or a misjudgment on the part of parents as to how well their child can swim.
A number of these accidents occur in shallow water, in a situation when the child was not supposed to be in the water (such as wandering into a yard or falling from a pier or boat), or some other preventable mishap. Even children who know how to swim need to be supervised carefully.
The essential thing any parent can do to keep their child safe around water is to be certain their child learns how to swim. Even tiny children who take such lessons as learning how to put their face into the water can benefit greatly.
Not surprisingly, even excellent parents can lack the skills necessary to teach swimming. To fill the need, community pools across the Valley have trained professionals who offer top-notch swimming lessons and water safety classes. These classes are an incredibly economical way to introduce children everything from survival following a fall into the water to the mechanics of freestyle and backstroke.
WATER SAFETY WORKSHOPS
SRP in partnership with Phoenix Children’s Hospital is offering free water safety workshops, Playing it Safe, for parents and caregivers of children ages five and younger. During this one-hour workshop, adults will learn:
basic water safety,
ways to reduce stress at the swimming pool
tools to improve supervision.
The program helps parents recognize the stresses that can sometimes occur on what should be a fun day at the pool and empowers them with information and tools to make pool time enjoyable and safe.
Workshops can be scheduled in small groups, or individually. For more information about Playing it Safe, email tisaacson@phoenixchildrens.org.
